Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The card has enduring collector demand from Team Aqua, Kyogre, and Full Art collectors, but it is already a mature vintage-leaning modern card whose price movement is likely to be driven more by grade scarcity and sale timing than by rapid appreciation.[1][2][8]
Next months. Expect mostly sideways movement with occasional spikes for high-grade copies if demand increases or inventory is thin.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, well-preserved graded 9/10 copies should remain desirable and may appreciate gradually if supply stays limited and Team Aqua-themed collecting remains strong.
History
Kyogre is a legendary Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire era as the mascot of Pokémon Sapphire. Team Aqua is the villainous organization associated with Kyogre in the Hoenn storyline, and this card depicts Kyogre in Team Aqua branding as part of the Double Crisis mini-set focused on Team Aqua vs. Team Magma conflict. The card is significant because it combines a major legendary Pokémon, a villain team theme, and a Full Art Ultra Rare treatment in a small, collectible subset.[6][1]
The card was first released in the Japanese Double Crisis mini-set in January 2015, then released in English as part of the Double Crisis expansion in 2015.[4][1][6]
- It is an Ultra Rare Full Art card from the Double Crisis subset and is numbered 6/34 in the English set.[1][3][5]
- Bulbapedia identifies it as a Water-type Basic Pokémon-EX with the Pokémon-EX rule that grants 2 Prize cards when Knocked Out.[6]
- The English card is part of a very small 34-card mini-set, which generally makes chase cards from the set more desirable to collectors.[5][1]
Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on the back edges and corners, surface scratches on the Full Art holo layer, print lines, and any dents or corner bends from handling. For this card, centering is important because Full Art cards show edge and border flaws more visibly. Holo scratching and edge wear are among the most common issues on this type of card.[1][6]
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or card saver, and keep it away from humidity, heat, and direct light. Because Full Art holo cards can scratch easily, avoid repeated handling and use clean, dry hands or gloves when inspecting it. For higher-value copies, grading or sealed archival storage is preferred.[1][8]
Authenticity. Authentic copies should have correct font weight, kerning, and the expected Pokémon back print with a black inner layer that blocks light. Under magnification, the rosette dot pattern and holofoil texture should match genuine Pokémon printing. Because this card is collectible and has been listed in counterfeit discussions, high-value copies are best verified by graded, graded, or graded authentication.[1][7]
